Cafardo's Ultimate 15-Round Mock Draft

10/20/2018

Nikc Cafardo

The draft might start Sunday. I'm not responsible for the draft order changing or not including a prospect that isn't listed under the draftable prospects. No trades in this one.

1.1 Cubs: Rich Mahogany CF/LF

There have been more names directly linked to the Cubs than any other team. Slapshot Brady and Todd Bonzalez were projected to go here in my other 2 mocks, but that now looks unlikely. At this point, it looks as if it is down to Daniel Dove, Valeria Lisova, Dart Ragusa, Michael Ikenberry, and Mahogany as you can see here. Not everybody has Mahogany #1, but he is pretty consistently among the top 10 of everybody's boards that I've talked to. Depending on what the Cubs do in free agency (so far rumors make it sounds as if they could strike out early) they could target a catcher or pitcher early, they just might not love one at this spot.

1.2 Mets: Alvin Lockheart P

Sources from the Mets organization have told me that they are looking to target a veteran to build around in the 1st round and then target rookies later. Lockheart is the perfect veteran to build around, well, because his activity levels are still as high as any other prospect, plus he is known to have great leadership skills.

1.3 Marlins: Demetrious Ooga C/3B

The Marlins have let their interest for Ooga be well known, and I just don't see them passing him up, especially since his recent position change to catcher, a position that expansion teams will be sure to target early. He's been projected here in other mocks as well, and I feel as if this is one of the most likely picks of this draft.

1.4 Royals: Michael Ikenberry C/1B

Another catcher is taken in the 1st round. Royals GM Zack Andersen is reportedly looking for unique position and hitting types, and a speedy catcher fits perfectly into this mold. Ikenberry could certainly go earlier as well. The self-described "active and friendly" prospect is picking up interest as teams learn more and more about his MS Paint skills.

1.5 Yankees: Charles Magnus P

For the 3rd mock in a row, I have Magnus headed to New York. There is becoming a stronger belief that Tequila Sunrise will look elsewhere (maybe just to mess with my mocks, idk), but for now this still looks like the most likely scenario. Magnus is an active pitcher who was of course teammates with Tequila, and has played a big role in NPR with Tequila.

2.6: Athletics: Jimjon Jonjim 1B/3B

Outside of targeting Ooga, it's not entirely clear what the A's plan to do. They seemingly have a few holes in their lineup, but definitely won't target pitching early. Rumors have it that they are aggressively pursuing 1st baseman, Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen, in free agency. If they do not land him, I think they will look towards another 1st baseman in the draft, with Jonjim being a popular candidate at this spot, especially since it is rumored that he has connections with the franchise.

2.7 Yankees: Jericho Caulfield 2B/RF

Who knows if the Yankees are actually picking here. It's confusing. BUT if they do, I can't see them passing up a top tier talent like Caulfield. As a 2B/RF, he hasn't shown up early in a lot of mocks, but it would be surprising to see him slide past the first few rounds.

2.8 Royals: Filet Mignon-Jackson P

After taking a catcher in the 1st, I think the Royals keep building with the most important positions with a pitcher in the 2nd. Who the top pitcher is is an interesting debate. Some might have expected Lisova here, but after calling out her teammates in an interview she could slide down. Mignon-Jackson may not wow anybody, but he is a pretty surefire pick with the confidence to go late in games.

2.9 Marlins: Ethyn "Skeeter" Williams LF/RF

Williams is definitely one of the biggest risers among all prospects heading into the final weekend before the draft. Whether the Marlins have interest in him isn't completely known, but I could see them target an outfielder in the 2nd round after taking an infielder in round 1. They could also go after a pitcher, or a middle infielder like Dove, but because Lane intends to play shortstop, I don't see that happening.

2.10 Mets: Dart Ragusa 1B/3B

Ragusa to the Mets has been a very popular connection so far before the draft. After taking their wanted veteran in the 1st, Caleb Athen is likely to look for a rookie bat, and Ragusa is one of the best available here, if he isn't the best available already.

2.11 Cubs: Carlos Brownson C/1B

Brownson was not one of the names connected to the Cubs. From what I know, the Cubs likely don't view Brownson as the best player available at this spot, but after losing out on Thomas Chiggins in free agency, they want to go for a catcher as early as they can. Brownson is a solid option, and probably the top catcher available at this spot.

2.12 Rockies: Tara Dactyl SS/3B

After reportedly moving from the mound to the left side of the diamond, Dactyl has increased her chances of getting drafted by teams like the Rockies, who already have their pitching staff sorted out. Ronald Eagle Sr. entered the draft and I could see Colorado trying to get him back, but not quite this early.

2.13 Padres: Artanis Jones P

I don't know if Preller is being quiet on purpose or not, but nobody has a good idea about what the Padres are doing. Maybe not even Preller. The Padres are losing quite a few players this offseason that they need to replace, with pitcher being an important one to note.

2.14 Astros: Jack Jackie Jackson C/1B

His stock has been on the rise and Jackson has an appealing and long reddit history. His stock has been up thanks to increased discord activity. It may seem early to have him in the 2nd, but the Astros are reportedly looking for Max Homers hitters here, and outside of Ragusa, and maybe McPoopus, Jackson seems like the best available.

2.15 Blue Jays: Jocko Jones 2B/RF

It was previously reported that the Blue Jays had interest in Jocko Jones and that his personality fit perfectly with the Blue Jays style. I see no reason as to why that may have changed, so here is Jocko again.

2.16 Phillies: Daniel Dove 2B/RF

The Phillies are reportedly very interested in the scouting reports that Daniel Dove has showed off to GMs. After losing scout master Zack Andersen to GM the Royals, I think the Phillies would be very interested in a player similar to Dove, as they have gone after these types of players in the past.

2.17 Diamondbacks: Erin Pickles 2B/SS

Pickles has flown under the national radar so far, but I can't see her slipping too far past here. The DBacks have reported interest in middle infielders, and specifically their scouts have been enamored with the idea of picking up Pickles with their only early selection.

2.18 Pirates: Basebally McBaseballface P

After losing Darth Vader to the Giants, the Pirates are likely looking for some pitching help. I could also see them trading this selection away for veteran players, but with a veteran pitcher right here I don't think they pass it up. McBaseballface was a very successful hitter, but it's unknown how he will perform at the mound.

This is the part where I stop telling you why everyone gets picked in a certain spot. If you want an explanation to a certain pick I will be glad to explain, however.
